GPS Trackers Show How Far Cats Travel While You're Sleeping

Think your cat falls asleep and stays in one spot all night long? Well, you’re wrong. An Australian government organization recently conducted a test to see where cats go while you’re sleeping. They placed GPS’s on them, and tracked where they go throughout the night. The results are jaw dropping. They walk miles upon miles, before they head back home. No wonder they love to nap! They use all their energy at night time 🙂

They used GPS trackers to map feline activity during the night and found that some cats get pretty far from home.

“When you speak to a lot of cat owners they say: “Oh my cat just sleeps on the end of my bed, it doesn’t go anywhere,” senior land service officer Peter Evans said.

In fact, some of the cats surveyed went as far as three kilometres from home.

“I thought Semi particularly would be just local — bottom of the garden or next door’s yard,” one of the pet owners said.

He was shocked when he learned that Semi was going into bushland and “over the hill and far away.”

The owner guessed that his cat is “looking for food which is probably the primary thing because he’s usually around eight and a half kilos which [the vet says] is far, far too heavy.”

The survey was carried out by The Central Tablelands LLS at Lithgow, in central-west New South Wales.
