If you’re a cat owner, there’s no doubt there was a time that you have woken up at some point to find a cat sitting on your belly or head sleeping. So you may be curious as to the reason why your cat wants to sleep with you or on you. Understanding these behaviors will help you better bond with your little one.

1. Security
Cats are small predators, which means that they are also at risk of being hunted by stronger animals. The time that they’re sleeping is a time when they are vulnerable the most, and they’re at great risk of being attacked by a predator. Being with you and sleeping with you provides them the security and extra defense if a predator would do an attack. Sleeping with you means they trust you, they know that you’re safe to be with, and you can also provide protection.

2. Warmth
It’s hardwired in their minds that warmth means survival, and by that, they are naturally attracted to warm places. I’m pretty sure you have seen your cat hanging around near a heater or a fireplace. With that being said, they want to sleep with you because your body is warmer than others. These include your lap, chest, or even your head.

3. Territory
They’re very territorial creatures. This results in them considering your bed to be part of their territory. Their territory is marked by rubbing their head on living objects and things as they have glands that release pheromones that let them mark areas as their own. So walking on your bed and rubbing their faces on you is one way that your cat is marking his or her territory.

4. Companionship
Lastly, it may just be for a simple reason. It might be because they like and trust you. It knows that you take good care of them, so you make a great sleeping companion. Even though people think the opposite, cats actually enjoy companionship depending on their mood. They can also get lonely. Interacting with their owner helps make their lives happier. So if your cat sleeps with you, they enjoy your company and want to spend precious time with you.

With all being said, sleeping with your cat is actually a great experience to have depending on your preferences. Of course, consider your cat’s lifestyle, and don’t force it to sleep with you. And, if you don’t permit your cat to sleep with you, make sure you provide alternatives like a kitty condo, pet bed, and the like.

Why Do Cats Sleep So Much On The Day?
Actually, they’re more active at dawn, that’s why they spend so much of their day sleeping. There are a lot of reasons why they do this. It is so that their hormone is regulated and for physical restoration. They’re hardwired to chase prey, mainly at dawn, so they sleep during the day to save energy.
