Sometimes, all it takes to get over a fear that’s bugged someone in life is to encounter it, perhaps a chance incident leads to a change in direction. It’d been a few months since Reddit user u/minotaur-cream got the cat from a neighbor who moved away, but it’s been a slow process to get used to each other.
Many commenters criticized the poster’s neighbor for abandoning their cat, and rightfully so. Just like in human children, abandonment can be traumatic to the cat, especially if it’s on the younger end.
It is a blessing that the cat went to a loving home, despite the initial reluctance. People who abandon animals are subjecting them to unnecessary anxiety and trauma.
