It’s important to approach them with patience, understanding and a little extra care. With time and support a shy cat can come out of their shell and shine into a confident, happy cat. Here are some tips for helping your shy cat come out of their shell and shine:

Create a safe haven

Cats feel more secure when they have a places to hide, specially shy cats, so make sure your home has plenty of hiding places such as boxes, blankets, and other cozy spots for your cats to hide. You can also consider setting up a “catio” as well, which allows your cat to play while still feeling safe and secure

Respect their boundaries

Let your cat approach you on their own terms and avoid overwhelming them with too much attention.

Reward good behavior

Use treats and praise to encourage your shy cat to explore their surroundings and interact with you.

Introduce new experience gradually

Take your cat on short walks or have friends visit with their cats to help them get used to new people and environments, and if possible you can add another cat so he will have someone to socialize with other than you.
