Cats Like Your Water Glass, And Here’s Why

u/konijn12 / Reddit

From keyboards to painting easels, cats sure love to take what is their owners’, and usually, the owners don’t really mind. A peculiar example of this was posted on Reddit’s r/cats forum, where a cat owner talked about how their cat loved drinking from their water glass, even if the cat had dedicated water bowls. They even previously had a fountain, but the cat ignored it.

Many of the comments theorize that the reason that the poster’s cat opts for their water glass is that they know that that water is safe since their human friend drinks from it a lot.

Others elaborated on the idea that the cat essentially made its owner their poison tester, so it trusts whatever they ingest, and the sources or containers that these came from.

And it seems like other people’s cats are even more adventurous, with one being fascinated by how beer carbonates. They’ll be fine so long as they won’t actually drink it.

It’s quite interesting to see this phenomenon, but broken glass aside, it’s quite harmless, so long as it’s actually healthy water in those glasses, and not random fluids. And certainly not anything alcoholic.

Cats are naturally predisposed to like to drink water, although they don’t enjoy bathing with it. In fact, they actually are better off drinking water than milk, contrary to popular belief. Like us, water is essential for their everyday life, and there are dangers that could happen if a cat is dehydrated.
