Cats can be both aloof and affectionate, especially towards their owners. Many new cat owners tend to wonder why their cats love to bury their heads into their bedsheets, or into their skin. And there are many possible explanations for this behavior, all of which are quite interesting.
Cats are careful sleepers, especially as they evolved to be both predators and prey. If a cat is willing to block its eyes, ears, and nose to rest, it simply means that they are comfortable and will be the one to adjust to the lights or sounds.
Cats have a favorite position to rest, and for many, it is cushioning their face onto their paws, which can be quite adorable.
Another explanation for places with cold weather is cats do these as a way to protect their more vulnerable areas from the dropping temperatures. Like us, cats are warm-blooded creatures vulnerable to temperature changes.
A cat that feels anxious or exposed will actually show its features when lying down, so as to be able to spot where the threat is or whether it’s coming near. Once it feels safe, it will nuzzle into its comfort zone.
Other reasons are depositing scent, greeting, and showing affection towards their owner. Scents are of particular importance to cats, so nuzzling deposits their scent onto areas or people that they deem safe, so as to initiate them as part of its colony or territory.
