Announced as early as 2020 “Stray” became a highly-anticipated game. Following several pandemic-induced delays, it was released on July 19, 2022, on Playstations 4 and 5, as well as for Windows.
“Stray” follows the story of a cat that winds up within the parameters of a walled city full of robots, machines, and viruses. Controlled by the player, the cat’s goal is to be able to get up to the surface, avoiding beings such as Zurks and Sentinels, which the cat will be able to evade by means of hacking into the world’s technology and solving puzzles.
The game starts innocently, with the cat wandering what is known as “The Outside”
Only to be separated from the group and begin their adventure into a walled cyberpunk city.
Much like in reality, the stray cat travels the walled city by leaping across platforms and avoiding or finding a way around obstacles. Besides that, they can open new paths by interacting with various elements of the open world’s environment, such as climbing into buckets, overturning paint cans, clawing at objects, and even operating a vending machine.
BlueTwelve Studio founders Colas Koola and Vivien Mermet-Guyenet, formerly employees at Ubisoft Montpelier, stated that they started the development of Stray in 2015 after they opted to pursue an independent game development career.
Reddit user u/jackson-galaxy streamed the game on YouTube and shared his stream with the r/cats community. Several people that saw his post agreed with him that the game is fun, and will surely be a staple for people who are both gamers and cat lovers.
